Rotaract of Casper: Young Professionals Network has worked many years to create James Reeb Memorial Park. We were able to get playground equipment and help Wyoming Food for Thought Project expand the community gardens through the fundraising of many Rotaract members and generous donations! Now is a great time to celebrate our successes and remember James Reeb, because on January 9th, the movie Selma opened in theaters. James Reeb is played by actor, Jeremy Strong.
James Reeb attended Natrona County High School. On March 7, 1965, while living in Boston with his family, he traveled to Selma, Alabama at the request of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., to participate in a civil rights march. Reeb was brutally attacked by local area KKK members and died two days later. Memorials were held around the world and on August 6, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson passed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 in his honor.
